She won the Wimbledon women’s singles title an incredible seven times, but even Williams gets nervous sometimes. Ahead of her return to the British Tennis Championships this week, the superstar athlete is sharing her pre-tournament preparations – which include an unexpected relaxation technique.
“I relax by doing Lego,” Williams, 40, told fans in a new Instagram post, holding a set of Thor hammers she was assembling.
Thor isn’t the only Avenger helping the tennis champion relax.
“I love Marvel, so I’m watching ‘Iron Man 1’ for like the third or fourth – no, actually, like, the 20th time,” she admitted, adding, “I can almost quote the movie. “
Last but not least, Williams shouted out the blue-light glasses she was wearing. These glasses are thought to help the wearer avoid eye strain, fatigue, headaches and sleep disruption by blocking blue light from the screen.
Williams also opened up about her therapy practice earlier this year in an interview with Yahoo Life’s The Unwind. The 23-time Grand Slam champion revealed that she takes time out of her schedule to relax – she prefers to play with her daughter Olympia or squeeze in a massage or workout. Setting boundaries also helps her protect her inner peace.
“I think we’re always taught to pace ourselves and do the best we can,” she shares. “You know, a lot of people will definitely try to pull you in different directions and make you do things over a very long period of time. So you have to really have boundaries and then say, ‘Well …… Frankly, that’s not realistic, and in order to get the best product, that’s what I highly recommend. I just think it’s very important to have boundaries and to stay clear.”
